B&R is Closing on Saturdays beginning July 26: What’s Changing at Bread & Roses (and Why)

Dear B&R Community,

Like almost all nonprofits, we're facing challenging financial pressures right now. Our building costs have increased by up to 400% as we continue to address urgent repairs to ensure our space remains safe and welcoming for all.

As many of you are aware, we've attempted to relocate before, but city permitting and space requirements have prevented us from doing so. With costs continuing to climb for operations and for food, and with funding disruptions affecting private foundations' grants (especially in the absence of state or federal support), we've had to make a tough decision.

Beginning July 26th, Bread & Roses will no longer be open on Saturdays.

We made this decision with care and consideration, taking into account the input from our community. Together, we chose Saturday because it's the one day we are open without our Emergency Pantry, and because two other local nonprofits serve meals nearby on Saturdays. We trust our guests will still be in good hands.

We're especially grateful to our Saturday volunteers and Meal Heroes who have shown such flexibility, patience, and care during this change. We couldn't do it without all of you.

We're sorry to make this shift; however, it's necessary for our long-term sustainability and to ensure our core programs can continue to serve thousands of people every week through our Emergency Pantry and Community Meals.

If you need information about other Saturday meal programs in your area, please don't hesitate to contact our team. We'll also have this information printed for guests during our Emergency Pantry and Community Meals. You can download the information here.

Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for being a part of our community.

With gratitude and in your service,

The Bread & Roses Team
